Oklahoma Board of Nursing Helpful Hints
Who May Use the Online License Renewal?
There are some cases where individuals are not eligible to use the online licensure renewal process. Do not proceed online if: your license is inactive, lapsed, suspended, or revoked or if you have been notified by the Oklahoma Tax Commission you are not compliant with state income tax and have not resolved this with the Oklahoma Tax Commission.
Recent legislation requires the Board of Nursing to verify citizenship status prior to issuance of a license. If you are a qualified alien who is not a U.S. citizen, national, or permanent legal resident alien, you must present in person at the Board office, valid documentary evidence of your alien status prior to renewing your license. After submitting the evidence of alien status, you will be provided with a renewal form and an Evidence of Status form to complete at the Board office and submit with the $75.00 renewal fee. The Board of Nursing can only issue a temporary license to an individual who is a qualified alien, which is valid for the period of time the alien status is valid.
When should I renew my license?
Your nursing license must be renewed every two years by the end of your birth month. Registered Nurses renew in even years and Licensed Practical Nurses renew in odd years. You may renew up to three months before your license expires (for example, you can renew as early as April 1 if your license expires on June 30).
A renewal reminder letter will be sent to you approximately 10 weeks before your expiration date. Occasionally, a nurse may not receive his/her renewal reminder letter, due to misdirected mail or failure to change his/her address with the Board office. If you do not receive your renewal reminder letter, you are still responsible for submitting the renewal prior to your expiration date.
We recommend that you complete and submit your renewal as soon as you receive the renewal reminder letter. Do not wait until your expiration date! The Board will hold you accountable for submitting your renewal in a timely manner.
How can I verify to my employer that I submitted my renewal prior to my expiration date?
Upon completion of the online renewal process, you will receive a confirmation receipt to print for your records. This confirmation receipt will service as verification you submitted your licensure renewal online.
You should confirm the processing of your licensure renewal online in approximately 2 business days at: http://www.ok.gov/nursing/verify/. You may expect to receive your pocket license card within 3 weeks. Online licensure verification is considered primary source verification.
What documents do I need to have when I renew?
When you log on to renew your license, please have available your renewal reminder letter. In addition, you will need to refer to your credit card (MasterCard or Visa) or a bank account information. If using a credit card number, you will also need the security code shown on your card. If using a checking/savings account, you will also need the routing number shown on your check.
What happens if I have had criminal charges, had disciplinary action on another nursing or health-related license or certificate, or have been judicially declared mentally incompetent, and I haven't previously reported this to the Board?
If you have had criminal charges, had disciplinary action on another nursing or health-related license or certificate, or have been judicially declared mentally incompetent, not previously reported to the Oklahoma Board of Nursing, you may submit your renewal online. However, before your renewal can be processed, you must submit the following to the Board office no later than the expiration date of your license, certificate, or recognition:

If you are a CRNA, a minimum of eight units of continuing education in advanced pharmacology relating to the administration of anesthesia, as recognized by the Council on Certification of Nurse Anesthetists or the Council on Recertification of Nurse Anesthetists is required. If you have been granted initial prescriptive authority with the 24 month prior to your license expiration date, please include all hours earned during the renewal period, including hours submitted and approved for your initial prescriptive authority. If your record is selected for audit, you will be notified and will be required to submit:
