Divisions 
Cattle:

Cattle are the number one agricultural commodity in Oklahoma, with cash receipts of almost three billion dollars per year. This ranks Oklahoma as the number three cattle producing state in the nation.

After a long struggle we became free of bovine Brucellosis in 2001. Feral swine carry swine Brucellosis which can infect cattle and can mimic bovine Brucellosis. This can cause confusion in testing slaughter cattle and lead to unnecessary expense and time in testing cattle herds to prove they are not infected with bovine Brucellosis.

Tuberculosis is a disease that we remain on guard against in our state. We gained Tuberculosis free classification in 1984, but this disease continues to crop up in dairy, beef, and farmed deer herds across the United States, as well as in the wild Whitetail Deer population in Michigan and Minnesota.

Other reportable cattle diseases our agency monitors and/or maintains surveillance for are Trichomoniasis, Paratuberculosis (Johne's Disease), Anthrax, Malignant Catarrhal Fever, Bovine Babesiosis (Texas Fever), Screw Worms, Scabies, and all Vesicular Diseases which include Foot and Mouth Disease. An uncontrolled outbreak of any of these diseases would have a negative impact on the export of our cattle to other states or nations.
