Oklahoma Board of Cosmetology - Agency Information

Agency Purpose
The Board of Cosmetology licenses and regulates the profession of cosmetology, esthetics, manicuring, instructors and establishments where these services are performed. It also regulates health and safety issues in schools approved by the Board. Anyone who provides these types of services including but not limited to, haircutting, hairdressing, nail care, skin care and the application of make-up must be licensed by the Board.

Performance Appraisal Committee - This committee is charged with evaluating and measuring the performance and worth of the Executive Director while determining the climate of the agency.

Legislative Affairs Committee - This committee is charged with submitting, tracking and reporting to the Governor, House, Senate and Appropriation Committee, any Board business relating to new or current laws, and other related business of the Oklahoma State Board of Cosmetology and reports back to the full Board accordingly.

Rules Committee - This committee is charged with overseeing the rule making process that is necessary to promulgate rules which prescribe guidelines for regulating the profession and protecting the public.

Budget/5-Year Strategic Plan Committee - This committee is charged with the oversight of the agency budget, while planning and establishing long term goals for a definite period of time based on estimates of need and financial position. This committee also monitors agency funds.

Testing Committee - This committee is charged with evaluating and measure the cost, procedures and validity of the practical and written test administered by the Oklahoma State Board of Cosmetology.

Committee members are charged with researching, gathering information and bringing results to the full Board for approval and possible action.

The Board members are charged with policy making, approving programs and establishing long and short term goals etc.

The agency employees are charged with carrying out the job duties to accomplish the mission of the agency and the legislative intent.
