>>> INFO Information about the &LISTNAME list
.fo on
PH-Consortium-L was created to facilitate discussion of issues
relating to public health data standards amongst interested
parties. These issues include: data standards; identifying high
priority public health data needs; seeking representation on data
content committees; organizing representation on standards
development bodies; educating the public health and research
communities about data standards issues; participating in efforts
to assure continued access to health-related information; implications
of the Health Insurance Accountability and Portability Act of 1996
(HIPAA); and other related issues. See
http://www.state.ok.us/~chs/draft/phc/index.html
for more information on the PH-Consortium-L discussion list.

&WEEKDAY, &DATE &TIME
.fo on
&MBX(&INVOKER) has just altered your subscription options for the
&LISTNAME list as per the "&CMD" command.
If the command above is SET PH-Consortium-L NOREVIEW, it means
that you have earned the privalege of posting messages
directly to the list without having to go thru the list
editors for approval. You need to remember... it's
up to you to help keep &LISTNAME a cool place by
*how* you choose to express your views.

See the &LISTNAME web page and list guidelines at:
http://www.state.ok.us/~chs/draft/phc/index.html

for more information about what's expected for participation.
If the command above is NOPOST it means that a list editor
has revoked your privaleges to post to &LISTNAME until
you adequately respond to their concerns that the mail
you sent to &LISTNAME
was not consistent with list guidelines. You should
be receiving a message from &INVOKER telling you why
you were set to nopost This nopost status will continue
until you convince the list editor that you understand
list guidelines and will participate according to list guidelines.
See the &LISTNAME web page at:
http://www.state.ok.us/~chs/draft/phc/index.html
for information about what's expected for participation.

Welcome &WHOM !
Your subscription to the &LISTNAME list (&TITLE) has been accepted.
SAVE THIS MESSAGE! You WILL need it!
All commands (such as those commands to subscribe to and leave
the list) must be sent to the "LISTSERV address", &MYNAMES.
To send a message to all the people currently subscribed to the list,
just send mail to &LISTADDR. This is called "sending mail to the
list", or posting a message to the list, because you send mail to
a single address and LISTSERV sends copies to all the people
who are subscribed. Note that the listowner screens messages from
new subscribers for a probationary period to make sure that
everyone is behaving consistantly with the list guidelines for
participation.

Please save this message for future reference, especially if you are not
familiar with LISTSERV. This might look like a waste of disk space
now, but in 6 months you will be glad you saved this information when
you realize that you cannot remember what are the lists you are
subscribed to, or what is the command to leave the list to avoid filling
up your mailbox while you are on vacations. In fact, you should create a
new mail folder for subscription confirmation messages like this one, and
for the "welcome messages" from the list owners that you will occasionally
receive after subscribing to a new list. See
http://www.state.ok.us/~chs/draft/phc/index.html
for information on using the PH-Consortium-L discussion list.
The &LISTNAME list has been created to serve as a forum
for discussion of issues relating to public health data standards.
We encourage you to contribute to the discussions and to share
information about this forum with other interested parties. This
discussion list gives you the ability to communicate with many
people with each message you send, however to ensure quality
discussions there are some rules that we ask everyone to abide
by to make your participation on this list enjoyable for everyone.
When you send mail to &LISTNAME, remember to:
.fo off
1) Keep the subject line congruent with the topic of the post.
This makes it easy for people to delete without reading, topics
that don't appeal to them.
2) Quote ONLY what you need so that people will be able to follow
the conversation. Remove any headers and footers from the message
you're responding to. Clearly indicate who said what by including
the person's name (and/or e-mail address) you're responding to prior
to the text you are quoting in your post. cut out all except the
relevant portions of the post you're responding to. Do not just
leave their entire message at the bottom of your post.
3) Avoid sending one line messages to the list.
4) Send your post in plain text mode. If you're using Outlook
Express, turn off html and base 64 formatting.
5) Large sig files are discouraged.
6) Do NOT send advertisements, chain letters, attachments, graphics
files, etc to the list.
7) No Flaming! - Treat others as you would like to be treated--with
civility, tolerance and respect.
.fo on
When you first join the list, you will receive messages from the
list, however the messages you send to the list will temporarily
be screened by the list owner to make sure that you're familiar with
the posting guidelines (in terms of quoting, advertisements, etc.).
After you have demonstrated that you keep your posts consistant with
the list guidelines you will be allowed to send mail directly to the
list. If during this period, the listowner feels that your post is
not consistant with posting guidlines, they will send you e-mail
containing your post, an explaination of the problem and if appropriate
will ask you to revise and resubmit.
We sincerly hope that by your participation, you will help us to
keep &LISTNAME an enjoyable place to communicate with other
professionals regarding these important public health issues.

POSTING TO THE LIST
******************************************
.fo on
To send a message to all the people currently subscribed to the
list, just send mail to &LISTADDR. This is called "sending mail
to the list", or posting a message to the list, because you send
mail to a single address and LISTSERV sends copies to all the
people who are subscribed. This address (&LISTADDR) is also
called the "list address". You must never try to send any command
to that address, as it would be distributed to all the people who
have subscribed.

CHANGING YOUR LISTSERV OPTIONS
******************************************
.fo on
All commands (such as those commands to subscribe to and leave
the list) must be sent to the "LISTSERV address", &MYNAMES.
Note, if you send your commands to the list address instead, everyone
who is subscribed will get a copy and will most likely get
annoyed with you.

By sending mail to confirm your request to join PH-Consortium-L you are indicating that you have read the guidelines for participation and
will keep your posts consistant with those guidelines.
To confirm the execution of your command, simply reply to this
message and type "ok" (without the quotes) as the text of your message.
Just the word "ok" - do not retype the command.... Do not include a
signature file or any other text in the message. This procedure will
work with any mail program that fully conforms to the Internet standards
for electronic mail. If you receive an error message, try sending a new
message to &MYSELF (without using the "reply" function - this is very
important) and type "ok &CODE" as the body of your mail message.
Finally, your command will be cancelled automatically if you do not
confirm it within &EXPIRE. After that time, you must start over and
resend the command to get a new confirmation code. If you change your
mind and decide that you do NOT want to confirm the command, simply
discard the present message and let the command expire on its own.
