MOVE MORE

The Facts...
Regular physical activity offers benefits in health and well-being for Oklahomans.  Physical activity done on most days of the week can reduce the risk of:

  • Heart Disease
  • Colon Cancer
  • Stroke
  • Diabetes
  • High blood cholesterol
  • High blood pressure
  • Pain associated with Arthritis
  • Stress

The Challenges...
Some people may think they are too old to be active or too young to worry about being active.  Others may think physical activity has to be competitive or a challenge.  Just remember that physical activity should be fun at any age.  Click here to find out more about physical activity.

Another challenge to being physically active is spending too much time watching TV, playing video games, using the computer, and talking or texting on cell phones.  These are collectively referred to as screen-time.

The more time children spend watch television, the greater their risk of becoming overweight.  This is likely due to the displacement of physical activity and increased caloric intake resulting from greater snacking opportunities and poorer food choices.

What can you do?  Start looking at the amount of screen-time that you and your family get in an average day and finding ways to reduce that time and increase your physical activity.  It's a lot easier than you think!  Click here for a toolkit to help you get started!

The Solutions...
Imagine doing fun activities you look forward to and enjoy!  Physical activity should be fun. What did you like doing as a child? Dust off that bike, dig out the roller skates or grab your leash and walk the dog to a nearby park. Discover which kinds of physical activity are fun for you and watch the health benefits follow at any age.  Click here to get ideas to help you Move More.
