Billy Wilder's 1944 film, based on James M. Cain?s crime novel, tells the seedy story of insurance agent Walter (Fred MacMurray) who is seduced by beautiful blonde housewife Phyllis (Barbara Stanwyck) into killing her husband, so they can collect on the insurance policy. When the husband?s ?accident? arouses the suspicion of a claims adjustor (Edward G. Robinson), Walter and Phyllis begin a dangerous game of covering their tracks, only to turn on each other.
