As one of America's most popular bands in the 1960's and '70s, Three Dog Night released 21 consecutive singles which became Billboard Top 40 hits, including ?Joy to the World,? ?Mama Told Me (Not to Come),? ?Old Fashioned Love Song,? Black and White,? and ?Shambala.? One of the group?s hit songs, ?Never Been to Spain? was written by Oklahoman Hoyt Axton (1971), who included the lyrics ?I?ve never been to heaven, but I?ve been to Oklahoma.? The song was among those considered in 2008 for the state?s rock song. Axton also wrote ?Joy to the World.?
Since 1986, Three Dog Night have performed over 2,000 shows including two Super Bowls. Three Dog Night consists of founding members Cory Wells and Danny Hutton (lead vocals) and original keyboardist Jimmy Greenspoon, as well as Michael Allsup (guitar), Paul Kingery (bass and vocals) and Pat Bautz (drums).
