The 2012 Norman Philharmonic season begins with one of America?s most performed living composers, Libby Larsen. She's created a catalogue of over 400 works spanning virtually every genre from intimate vocal and chamber music to massive orchestral works and over fifteen operas. The Norman Philharmonic has commissioned the Grammy Award winning Larsen to write an anthem and symphony for the city of Norman. Both will be premiered during the program. The rest of the bill includes: ''Rhapsody in Blue'' by George Gershwin with pianist Richard Dowling, ''Trumpet Concerto in Eb'' by Joseph Haydn with trumpheter Karl Sievers, Mozart's ''Overture to the Marriage of Figaro, and ''Meditations on Ecclesiastes'' by Norman Dello Joio.
