Access Optics is improving the way physicians see inside the body – and it’s not with X-ray glasses!
Whether evaluating a torn ACL or a diseased gallbladder, endoscopic instruments permit doctors to more accurately diagnose patients through minimally-invasive surgery. Endoscopic surgery involves insertion of a tube into the body to take a biopsy, remove foreign objects or use a camera to take photographs or video. Sterilization of endoscopic tools means these instruments must undergo extensive high-pressure, high-temperature autoclave cleanings which cause significant wear and tear.
Through nanotechnology, Access Optics is creating a superior seal for endoscopic instruments that connects the lens to the metal encasement on the probing device. The nanoparticles improve the “coating” quality of the metal, adhere better to the lens and prevent water from seeping into the medical devices. This Oklahoma-grown technology offers a much better, more economical seal, greatly extending the life of these expensive, sophisticated medical instruments.
