State of Oklahoma Internship Opportunities Now Available Online at CAPIP.OK.gov Applying for an internship with the state of Oklahoma just got easier with the new Office of Personnel Management’s (OPM) Carl Albert Public Internship Program (CAPIP) online application system. Prospective interns can visit http://CAPIP.OK.gov to use the new online application. “This new online system will be providing efficiencies in many areas of our CAPIP program,” said Denae Edwards, Carl Albert Public Internship Program Coordinator. “Not only are we offering an online process to college students, but the process is extending to all state agencies, providing for less paperwork, increased competition, and less man-hours devoted to the internship hiring process.” Visitors to the site can view all state of Oklahoma internships with participating agencies and can create an account to apply. The visitor must then complete an online application and specify if they are seeking a graduate, senior undergraduate, or an undergraduate internship. Once OPM approves an online application, state agencies can view the interested applicant and contact those who meet the criteria for their internship. All Oklahoma state agencies have the ability to upload internship descriptions through the same system by contacting OPM to receive an account. The Office of Personnel Management’s (OPM) Carl Albert Public Internship Program (CAPIP) online application system is a product of a partnership between the Oklahoma Office of Personnel Management and OK.gov, Oklahoma’s Official Web site managed by the eGovernment firm, NIC Inc. (NASDAQ: EGOV).
Oklahoma Department of Commerce Unveils New Web Site The Oklahoma Department of Commerce has redesigned its Web site, OKCommerce.gov, in hopes users will find the experience easier to navigate as well as providing a wealth of updated information to Oklahoma businesses and communities. The redesigned site features a new and improved Oklahoma buildings and sites database which includes more than 250 buildings with GIS-mapping features, including the ability to view proximity to transportation and resources. The new site, nearly 2 years in development, offers visitors hundreds of pages of useful information along with hundreds of downloadable documents. Commerce’s new Web site is focused on assisting business location consultants, business owners (both start-ups and existing), communities, those developing Oklahoma's workforce, as well as anyone seeking statistical data about the state or communities within it. The US Department of Transportation, Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), in partnership with NIC Technologies, has announced the launch of www.psp.fmcsa.dot.gov, offering the latest information on the federal motor carrier Pre-Employment Screening Program (PSP). The site provides details and updates on PSP, and offers motor carriers the opportunity to enroll for the program in advance of PSP system launch. NIC Technologies is part of eGovernment firm NIC’s (NASDAQ: EGOV) family of companies. The Pre-Employment Screening Program is the result of federal legislation requiring FMCSA to provide employers of commercial drivers with electronic access to crash and inspection data in FMCSA’s Motor Carrier Management Information System (MCMIS). The information will assist employers when assessing a driver’s safety history as part of the pre-employment screening process. The new PSP Web site, www.psp.fmcsa.dot.gov, provides details about PSP data, the PSP online system, and answers to frequently asked questions. The PSP Web site also offers enrollment documents for motor carriers who plan to access PSP records. Motor carriers are encouraged to enroll now so they may obtain access credentials in advance of the PSP system launch. There is no fee for the required initial enrollment. Once the PSP system is launched and motor carriers are able to pull records, motor carriers will pay an annual subscription fee and $10 per PSP record purchased. Motor carriers will be required to obtain a driver’s written consent prior to accessing a driver’s record. Individual drivers will be able to access their personal PSP record at any time through the PSP system. A driver will pay $10 to purchase his or her record, but no annual subscription fee will apply, and no enrollment is necessary.
Meetings & Online Survey to Collect Input from Community on Destinations and Routes The Central Oklahoma Transportation and Parking Authority and the City of Oklahoma City are seeking citizen input through a series of public meetings and online forums to begin planning for enhanced public transit in downtown Oklahoma City. COTPA will launch www.LetsTalkTransit.com and host the first “Let’s Talk Transit” public discussion on March 29 to collect input about the initial five-mile modern streetcar routes in downtown Oklahoma City. Together, the public and COTPA will work through the process to identify destinations and routes that will best serve downtown’s public transportation needs. Included in the area of focus will be various downtown districts such as the Automobile Alley, Bricktown, Central Business District, Deep Deuce, Film District, Oklahoma Health Center, Midtown and the Core to Shore area. “This is the first step toward a new transit vision for our City,” said Mayor Cornett. “We’re encouraging every citizen to offer input. These meetings will help us identify the service areas that are most important to those who work in, live in and visit our downtown.” Citizens can provide their input online or through a series of Let’s Talk Transit public meetings. Meetings will be held:
The agenda for each of the five meeting dates will change because it will build on the information and input from the previous meeting. On the first and last dates the community will have the option to attend a morning or an evening meeting with the same agenda. This accelerated process is necessary to identify what streets the streetcar may travel and to coordinate the plan with Project 180 - Oklahoma City’s downtown streetscape plan starting in May 2010. Through cooperative planning, the projects will minimize disruption due to construction and maximize cost savings. Included in MAPS 3, passed by Oklahoma City voters in December 2009, is approximately $130 million in funding for public transportation. The transit package includes approximately five miles of downtown streetcar and a multimodal transit hub in downtown. “Five miles of streetcar will only allow us to cover a limited area,” said Rick Cain, Administrator of COTPA and Director of Public Transportation and Parking for the City of Oklahoma City. “That’s why it’s critical we get input from citizens about their preferred destinations and routes in downtown Oklahoma City.” In hopes of building on the MAPS 3 modern streetcar project, an Alternatives Analysis (AA) study is underway. The AA study will provide a broader scope of the transportation needs of downtown Oklahoma City and is required to qualify for future federal funding. While a modern streetcar will provide improved mobility in the area, the AA will look at planning with emerging technologies and services for further enhancing downtown public transportation for the next 30 years. An AA Steering Committee made up of citizens is currently being formed to review input from transit consultants, city planners and engineers about capital, operating costs and other infrastructure that must be considered, as well as to listen to input from the public about where they want to go. The input from the Let’s Talk Transit public discussion will be reviewed and considered by the Alternatives Analysis Steering Committee for their recommendation to the City Council.
