CARS.OK.GOV – The Quick and Convenient Solution For Renewing Oklahoma Tags Online Tag Renewal Notices Available Online Through New “Remind Me” Feature More than 10,500 Oklahomans have enjoyed the convenience of renewing their vehicle registration tag online since Oklahoma’s official Convenient Auto Renewal System (CARS) launched on February 17, 2010. The service has also allowed more than 1,400 Oklahomans to sign up for online email notices for their tag renewal month through the REMIND ME feature located on the homepage. Email reminders are sent to users on the first day of their expiration month. “Even if you’re not visiting the site to renew a vehicle tag, Oklahomans are still able to set up this free reminder for when their tag is due,” said Paula Ross, Oklahoma Tax Commission spokesperson. “This is just another way for people to be able to keep up with today’s hectic lifestyle and pace.” To learn more about which vehicles in Oklahoma can be processed through CARS and additional information, visit http://www.tax.ok.gov/mvonlinereg.html. CARS is a product of a partnership between the Oklahoma Tax Commission and OK.gov, Oklahoma’s official website that allows for no tax dollars to be used to build, operate, or maintain the service online.
Oklahoma Broadband Mapping Initiative Seeks Oklahomans Assistance The state of Oklahoma recently launched a new initiative undertaking a massive effort to collect and process data related to broadband availability across the state at http://BroadbandMapping.OK.gov. The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) directed the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) to develop and maintain a comprehensive nationwide inventory map of broadband service capability and availability and to make the map publicly available via the Internet. NTIA has awarded a grant to the State of Oklahoma to collect and verify statewide data about the availability, speed, and location of broadband Internet service. The ultimate goal of this project is to build a statewide broadband map showing usage and access to broadband technology. Understanding where broadband is available, and where it is not, is an integral part of determining where to focus additional broadband stimulus funding. Mapping the state’s broadband access will require the participation of all levels of state, county, and local government as well as Oklahoma citizens. This new website makes it easy for any Oklahoman to contribute to this massive effort. All Oklahomans are invited to test their Internet connection speed at the Broadband mapping website by selecting ‘Test Your Speed’ in the top navigation. Visitors can then select their location (work, home, or other) street address, zip code, and what Internet provider they utilize. All data collected will be consolidated onto a map of Oklahoma depicting what areas of the state are served, underserved, and unserved by broadband. The Oklahoma Broadband Mapping Initiative is being conducted under the direction of the Secretary of State and a partnership of several state agencies. Each year approximately 150 police officers are killed in the line of duty, with families and co-workers left to deal with the tragic death. Ride4Cops (www.ride4cops.com) was created to raise awareness of the inherent dangers of law enforcement and the sacrifices made by the families of fallen officers. Members of state and local law enforcement, Oklahoma Interactive, and parent company NIC (NASDAQ: EGOV), teamed up in support of Ride4Cops and Concerns of Police Survivors (C.O.P.S.), with a stop at the Oklahoma state capitol on June 4, 2010. Oklahoma City-based Oklahoma Interactive, LLC manages the state’s official website (http://www.OK.gov). Oklahoma Interactive (OI) and NIC Chief Executive Officer Harry Herington raised $2,250 dollars in support of the local C.O.P.S. chapter. Herington has committed to raising more than $150,000 during the next three years for C.O.P.S.
