OK.gov Receives Two National Awards For Excellence in Marketing for Programs in Oklahoma Government The GovMark Council, a not-for-profit forum recently announced their annual award winners for their Fifth Annual GovMark Awards, a program that honors the industry’s best marketers. OK.gov received recognition in the Best State and Local Government Marketing and Best Creative Campaigns for the following campaigns respectively:
“This recognition is yet another illustration of our efforts to provide excellence to the state of Oklahoma,” said Mark Mitchell, General Manager of OK.gov. “Both programs provide our state and local partners with positive PR and the ability to offer their constituents with valuable eGovernment services.” "We are excited to be honored with GovMark's Best State and Local Government Marketing and Best Creative Campaign awards in this year's program," said Joe Fleckinger, Deputy Director of Information Technology for the Office of State Finance. "We can't make government easier for our constituents if they aren't aware of the services, so marketing is key to their success. Red Dirt Ready Campaign Wins Nania Award The Oklahoma Office of Homeland Security (OKOHS) was honored for its Red Dirt Ready emergency preparedness initiative at the seventh annual Tulsa Partners Nania Awards banquet—an evening dedicated to recognizing outstanding individuals and organizations working in partnerships to build a disaster-resistant and sustainable community. The Red Dirt Ready initiative received a corporate award for the campaign’s aim to increase citizen engagement in disaster safety and homeland security through Citizen Corps-related programs and public education and marketing. “Our award nominating committee, was particularly pleased about this award nomination, because of a concern about the effects of ‘disaster amnesia,’” said Tim Lovell, executive director of Tulsa Partners. “Over time, even in a state like Oklahoma, people forget to be ready and resilient. This endeavor by the Oklahoma Office of Homeland Security to re-engage Oklahomans about the need to be prepared is to be applauded.” Tulsa Partners is a non-profit organization dedicated to disaster preparedness in the Tulsa Metropolitan Area. The word “Nania” is Cherokee meaning, “all together.” “We are honored to be recognized for our Red Dirt Ready campaign,” said Kerry Pettingill, Oklahoma Homeland Security director. “OKOHS strives to promote citizen and community emergency preparedness and Red Dirt Ready has been instrumental in bringing attention to the importance of preparedness. We thank Tulsa Partners for the award and look forward to continuing the Red Dirt Ready mission of helping prepare Oklahomans for any emergency.” The awards banquet keynote speaker was Julie Rochman, president and CEO for the Institute for Business and Home Safety.
The final portion of legislation intended to further strengthen the Oklahoma Department of Human Services’ oversight of child care facilities has been completed. An online child care restricted registry will be available to the public on July 1, 2010, as mandated by a law passed during the 2009 legislative session. Under HB 2643, the Oklahoma Child Care Facilities Licensing Act, OKDHS has established and will maintain an online database of individuals restricted from working or residing in a child care facility. This registry, named Joshua’s List, will be accessible to the public. Oklahoma Child Care Services has established the procedure for recording persons who have confirmed abuse or neglect in a child care facility; a revocation or denial of a facility license; or a specified criminal history. “To determine if an individual is restricted from employment or residence, child care facilities are required to conduct a search of the registry. Oklahoma Child Care Services will verify that the registry search has been conducted,” said Lesli Blazer, director, OCCS. “The public will also have access to obtain the same information about an individual.” During the initial rollout period, the registry will continually be evaluated and any necessary adjustments will be made as needed, Blazer said. A letter and training DVD will soon be sent to child care facilities to explain how they can access the child care restricted registry. OCCS is also printing revised versions of their child care requirements to include information about the registry. HB 2643 was signed by Gov. Brad Henry on June 2, 2009. The legislation expanded the use of emergency orders to close any unlicensed child care facility operating in Oklahoma that is not in compliance with mandated child care licensing requirements. The law also required OKDHS post childcare inspection records online. Child Care Locator/Summary of Facility Monitoring. Most sections of the bill went into effect on Nov. 1, 2009, but the section pertaining to the restricted registry becomes effective July 1, 2010. |
