Online Water and Wastewater Operator Searches Now Available Online Getting water and wastewater operator information in Oklahoma just got easier, thanks to a new service now available through the state's official Web portal, OK.gov. The Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality’s (DEQ) online water and wastewater operator search service allows users to access contact information for and view the status of water and wastewater operator license holders across the state. "We're offering this new service as a convenience to our licensees, as well as the citizens of Oklahoma, to assist them with locating and verifying water and wastewater operator’s information," said Chris Wisniewski, Environmental Programs Manager for DEQ. The online service is a fast and easy way for license holders to view the status of their license and make corrections if needed. The system is provided at no cost and was designed with clear, user-friendly navigation. The system allows users to search for a specific water or wastewater operator by name, license number, license type, class, county of residence, employer name, and employer county. The license information is updated weekly to ensure that users are receiving the most current information.
State Provides a Convenient Solution for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors to Renew Licenses Many engineering and land surveying professionals spend a majority of their time in the field. Renewing their license is often the last thing on their mind. The State Board of Licensure for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors (PELS) has offered an online license renewal for four years and wants to remind professional engineers and land surveyors that renewing online saves time, money, and consumption of paper. In fact, over 10,815 sheets of paper, 3,605 envelopes, and 3,605 stamps have been saved in the past year alone. “We try to make renewing licenses as convenient and efficient as possible, and we are glad to see the benefits of the online service when it is used,” said Kathy Hart, PELS executive director. "We hope that all professional engineers and land surveyors utilize this online system because it provides major advantages for them as well.” The online renewal service enables licensees to pay online with Visa, MasterCard, American Express and electronic check payments utilizing OK.gov’s secure payment engine. Licensees may also update business or employer information and enter professional development hours to complete their license renewal or reinstatement requirements.
Project Boomerang Web site Launched; Effort Designed To “Bring Home” Talented Oklahomans The Oklahoma Department of Commerce recently launched a Web site dedicated to the agency's Boomerang campaign, an initiative to attract highly-skilled workers and bring talented former Oklahomans back home. Natalie Shirley, Secretary of Commerce and Tourism, said the Boomerang campaign, along with the Web site, is designed to recruit one of the state's greatest assets: home-grown talented Oklahomans. "We want to attract highly-skilled professionals back to Oklahoma to fill high-quality, knowledge-based jobs. Expatriate talent can absolutely bolster key industries in our state," Shirley said. "We must use every tool available to find these folks, including an informative and engaging Web site." The Boomerang site features first-person testimonials, career information, job openings, housing data, and social and recreational opportunities. Sheri Stickley, Commerce Deputy Director for Strategic Planning & Initiatives, said the Boomerang site is part of a multi-tiered strategy to reach potential Boomerangers via the Internet. Oklahoma's Boomerang campaign can be found through social networking sites such as LinkedIn, Twitter, and Ning. Commerce also plans to use traditional marketing techniques such as targeted direct mail campaigns. The Project Boomerang Web site focuses on two distinct groups of former Oklahomans: 25- to 45-year-olds, young professionals often referred to as Millennials and Gen-Xers; and 45- to 60-year-olds, Baby Boomers who likely have extensive executive experience and are now looking at second careers as entrepreneurs. "Anything that leverages Oklahoma as a place to live, raise a family, and develop a career is worth exploring," Stickley said. "We are working diligently to establish partnerships with state universities and their alumni associations, partnerships with employers who have positions open, and partnerships with recruiting firms who are looking for employees." Shirley said the Oklahoma Department of Commerce, as the lead economic development agency in Oklahoma, is constantly working to find creative ways to retain and attract a highly-skilled workforce.
