OMES Director Adds Energy Program Director to Staff

OKLAHOMA CITY –- Preston L. Doerflinger, director of the Office of Management and Enterprise services, announced Friday the selection of Rick Krysiak as the State Energy Program Director, a new position at the OMES. Krysiak will be tasked with coordinating and implementing efforts to reduce energy costs and promote energy efficiency throughout state government.

Krysiak previously served as the Director of Physical Plant services at Oklahoma State University (OSU), where he led the effort to design and oversee the implementation of the university's energy efficiency initiatives. Those initiatives have saved the university $20 million since 2007. OSU's energy savings strategies focus on behavior-based solutions, such as setting heating and air conditioning equipment on run times matching building occupancy patterns.

"I'm excited to join the team at OMES and translate the success we've had at OSU to other state agencies," said Krysiak. "I'm confident that we can save taxpayer dollars through common sense energy conservation techniques that will deliver the more efficient state agencies that Oklahomans deserve."

Gov. Mary Fallin has made energy efficiency a priority in her administration. In May, she signed into law SB 1096, by Sen. Brian Bingman and Rep. Scott Martin, that requires state agencies to reduce their energy costs 20 per cent by the Year 2020.

"Rick Krysiak helped to spearhead an extremely effective energy conservation program at OSU, allowing the university to save dollars on energy that can now be spent inside its classrooms," Fallin said. "We plan to replicate that success on a statewide basis, and to save hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars in the process. That money can then be used to support priorities like education and public safety, rather than wasted. I know Rick's expertise will help us achieve our goals and deliver a smarter and more efficient state government."

Krysiak has served as Director of Physical Plant Services at OSU since 2006. Prior to that, he served as Chief of Engineering at Altus Air Force Base. He has over 23 years of experience in facilities and infrastructure operations and maintenance.

Doerflinger said he is excited to add Krysiak's expertise to the staff at OMES.

"Rick's track record is one of proven results and innovation," said Doerflinger. "The success he has had at OSU and the savings he helped to produce are remarkable. We are going to put him to work so we can duplicate those strategies and savings across state government. As the director of state finance, but also as a taxpayer, I'm glad to have him in our corner."

Krysiak has a bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering and Management from OSU, a master's degree in Public Administration from Troy University and a master's degree in Engineering and Environmental Management from the Air Force Institute of Technology. He received the OSU Staff Award for Outstanding Environmental Service in 2011.

Krysiak lives in Stillwater, with his wife Tina. He has 3 children; Rick III, Jacob and Samantha.
