Preserves and enhances the unique features and value of the Capitol area

• The Commission is responsible for the preservation and the enhancement of the Capitol area, which is, perhaps, the most important historical, political, and valuable real estate owned by the citizens of Oklahoma.

• The Commission creates a stabilizing influence for the area and will draw new residents and tourists from other parts of the City and the State.

• The Commission maintains and enhances the unique, historical ambience of the Capitol, Health Center, neighborhoods, parks and museums in the area.

• The average sales price per square foot for residential real estate within the District has been approximately twice the price of the area immediately outside of the District.

Facilitates Managed Growth and Change as the Community evolves and develops:

• Acts as the “lynchpin” for development of Oklahoma City downtown, Bricktown, Oklahoma Medical Center, the Capitol complex, and District neighborhoods.

• Enhances the beauty, value and attractiveness of the entire area so that it can provide more “in-town” housing opportunities for workers in the District and the central city.

• Serves as a model for other surrounding neighborhoods and areas.

Provides a central focus point for the merging needs of the Capitol community:

• Provides a central focus point where all new development and proposed changes in the District can be reviewed to ensure they will add value to the area.

• Provides a place where parties can be heard to insure that all of its diverse constituents are represented

Possesses strong vested Interest in area and is committed to its future. Forces the process of negotiation to accomplish the best good for the area because:

• All changes must come before the Commission for approval; and,

• All the members of the Commission and subcommittees have a strong vested interest in improving the area within the Commission District.
